Reece Walsh comments on potential NFL move en-route to NRL's Vegas debut

Jarred Cross -

Broncos young gun Reece Walsh isn't ruling out pursuing a shift to the NFL after getting a taste of the American game ahead of the NRL's Vegas venture, but says there's more he wants to achieve in rugby league before entertaining the idea.

Brisbane play the Roosters at recent Super Bowl venue Allegiant Stadium in a unique round one double-header on Sunday.

A host of NRL stars have been soaking up the US experience, with the Broncos spending a week training at LA Rams facilities and teammates attending a Lakers NBA game.

Walsh blew up the internet last month after catching a pass from NFL legend Tom Brady in suit pants during one of the seven-time Super Bowl champion's speaking engagements in the Queensland capital.

Asked by reporters in LA about a possible move, Walsh joked he and his management had spent time in the state's assessing options before pouring cold water on the idea - for the time being.

While the 21-year-old said he was enjoying and "grateful" for the opportunity, he said he's "not too sure" about the prospect of following fellow NRL fullbacks Jarryd Hayne and Valentine Holmes at pursuing a switch to the States.

"I'm obviously so early in my career. Those boys did a lot in their (NRL) career, and then made the change, so I've still got so much more I want to do in the game. So, you know, maybe in a few years we'll see," Walsh said.

Teammate Ezra Mam told reporters he thinks Walsh "could pull off any sport".

Ahead of his fourth season, and second with the Broncos, Walsh said he's looking to get even busier with more "quality touches" in his club's attack and pursuit of a premiership after last year's grand final heartbreak.

The Indigenous Australian and Māori man progressed past his early touting as a future star of the competition with a superb 2023 including debut State of Origin honours with Queensland.

Bunnies fullback Latrell Mitchell said he wasn't phased by a thinner ground in Vegas ahead of his club's game against Manly.

"When I was young, I used to run around people now. Now I'm 26 or 27, I just run over them," Mitchell told AAP at Fox League's launch in Vegas.

"You've got to make your own space. It's a tighter game, tighter field. It will just be feeling each other's game.

"The entertainment is going to be there, it's going to be there but it's just about feeling our way through round one and getting the cobwebs off.

"We're buzzing. Because we get to do what we love on the world stage now. Trell-Mit has been global for a very long time and now he's here."

Walsh said he was similarly excited by the prospect.

"I think it's a good challenge for myself. I've set a few goals coming into this year and I think playing on that narrow field, it's going to be good to try and implement some of them and really work on some things that I want to work on. So I'm excited," Walsh said.

Manly face South Sydney and the Broncos take on the Rooster to kick off the NRL season in a double-headed on Sunday afternoon, Australian time.
